TRY ME~ At Home Hair Remedies

I am a natural blonde (no jokes please), but I have colored my hair different shades and even brown for as long as I remember. Sometimes I go to a salon, but a lot of times I trust the box.

Last week I went to get my hair colored. Although my hair stylist did what I asked, I was not real happy with it. Sometimes this happens, and it really sucks. So, then next day I decided I would try to even out the color with a box kit. I do not remember the brand, but the color was a little more lively. I still was not happy.  My hair was an ugly color, over processed, dry and dead looking. The day after that, I had another appointment to get my hair re-done. However, I started worrying about whether or not I was going to kill my hair for good!

I decided to try and condition my hair instead and to color it in a week or so if I still wanted to. This was the best decision I could have made! I researched some home remedies for dry hair and decided to do an Olive Oil treatment. I wish I had taken a before picture, but you will just have to live with the after picture. The transformation was amazing. I plan to do this every other week or so just to re-hydrate my hair.

I ended up loving the color and I think my hair really just needed to be conditioned and rejuvenated!

If you have dry ends, just use the oil on your ends. I do think I used too much on my roots, but still I will do this again.

What you will need:
- Extra Virgin Olive Oil
- A bowl
- A microwave
- Aplastic bag
- A towel
- Shower after

Instructions:
1. Put about 1/4 cup of olive oil in a bowl. Heat for about 20 seconds or until warm to touch.
2. Dip hair ends in olive oil and massage oil through hair. Work up to the roots adding more oil as necessary. This step is a little messy so you may want a towel around your shoulders. I ended up just pouring some oil on the top of my head to get all areas covered.
3. After oil is massaged in from root to tip (or just ends if you are skipping roots) wrap your head with the plastic bag or plastic wrap. For obvious reasons, please do not cover your face... only your head. Come on people. :-)
4. Wrap your head then with the towel and wait for 30 minutes (I would do about 5-10 minutes more for thick hair)
5. Remove the towel and plastic and rinse hair. Then, shampoo hair to remove the oil. You may need to shampoo more than once. For instance, I shampooed my hair 2 times.
6. Condition hair and really let the conditioner soak in for a minute or two... massaging your scalp while it is in.

After washing my hair I wrapped my hair in a towel and let towel dry and air dry for the most part. I did end up blow drying a little bit at the end. I then straightened my hair, but obviously you do not have to do this. Have fun and good luck!!!

Let me know if you try this and how it works out for you!

*~* hOLiDaY dEcOrAtiOns *~*

Hello everyone!

It has been waaayy too long, so my apologies. I am in total disbelief that it is already December, 2010! This year seems to have flown by. So many changes have been made in my life this year and I am grateful for the friends I have met along the way.

Since Thanksgiving in the USA is over, I finally got around to putting up my Christmas Tree this weekend.  Also, I was very excited to see that my home made ornaments turned out. This was my holiday craft. I just went to the craft store to get clear ornaments, paint, glitter, etc. and started decorating. Although not all 24 or so that I bought are decorated, I think I have enough for my tree this year. It was a cheap way to get the color scheme I wanted and I can always paint new ones in another color scheme for next year!

This year was black, white, silver and red. Next year I am thinking either gold and red or bright pink, green, and blue! :-) Here are some:

And my tree!!!

Hope you all are having fabulous holiday seasons!!

WDW- Brain Junk Food.... sorta

Hello All! It is Wednesday again, so time for Wind Down Wednesday (WDW).

Today has been such a crazy day for me, and the only thing that seems to be taking the stress and craziness away is thought of just absorbing fun and possibly useless information.

I am not a huge fan of television, however tonight may be a night for endless re-runs of "How I Met Your Mother" and "The New Adventures of Old Christine" if they are on when I get home. Also, I have been browsing Time Magazine's site for interesting (but not to complex) articles for today to preoccupy my brain. I found a couple that were interesting at first glance and a bit amazing.... Can we really become invisible? Read on to find out!

Invisible Cloak?

I am very much wondering how they track this...

Wind Down Wednesday... WINE!

Today I want to start a post tradition called Wind Down Wednesday... also known as WDW.

Wednesdays are the middle of the week... referred to as Hump Day because you are at the peak of the work week and beginning your descent to the weekend. Wednesdays are usually busy days and they can either provide relief in knowing the week is winding down, or panic in knowing there is a lot more left to do. Either way, Wednesdays are a good day to take a moment and wind down....

So, every Wednesday (hopefully), I would like to post a new way to wind down. Also, I am very interested in your techniques for winding down... no matter how simple or elaborate it may be!

Today we will discuss one of my particularly favorite ways to wind down.... WINE!!!!!! One or two glasses of wine settles my nerves and leaves me feeling relaxed and blissfully happy. I prefer white over red, although a nice, smooth, full-bodied red can make a for a fabulous night. My favorite kind of wine is German Riesling because it is sweet, and does not taste watered down (although this can really depend on the brand). I also love Pino Grigio and Chardonnay.... actually, let's not lie here, I will drink practically any kind of wine.

When I was in Greece over the summer I particularly enjoyed their local rose wine (picture below). Please also note the delicious Greek Salad (as it should be) and Bruscetta!

Also, I love vineyards and wine tasting and while in Germany I was able to wine taste, travel through some Alsace wine country in France, and buy some wine! I put some pictures below to show you the beautiful wine country. And yes, I tasted some grapes off the vine.... please don't tell! :-)

So do you use wine to relax?? Red or white?!?! Or do you need salt all around that rimrimrimrim like Miss Nicki? Nothing against some margs, too!

Let me know! :-)

Poland, Italy, and PIZZA! (Three of my favorite things)

Hello Everyone!

First things first...
Looks like my blog is moving international already! Thank you to friends in Italy and Poland... and all the others that have been checking this out. I hope we grow and we can all learn from each other! Make sure you comment often. Also, check out the "FOLLOW" button to the right ---> and make a quick Blogger account to follow my blog.

In other news...
Has anyone had Sam's Club pizza? For $8.87 you can have them make you a cheese pizza and then you bring it home hot. I absolutely LOVE this pizza because it is great hot or cold and not too greasy. I highly recommend it.

What is your favorite pizza? (I DEFINITELY want to hear from Italy!)

What toppings do you like- meat, veggies, a mix? Does ANYONE like anchovies? YUCK!

What is the weirdest topping mix you have ever had?

I eat pretty plain pizza, so I am not sure I have had a weird topping. I only like veggies and cheese on my pizza (boring, I know).

Hope to hear from all of you soon!

Kisses!

Oh and of course... HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Halloween is one of my many favorite holidays, so I am always interested in new ways to celebrate and new costume ideas. This year I was cotton candy. Here is a picture of my homemade costume:

This was made from a dress body shaper. I sewed batting on the body shaper, then spray painted everything pink and blue. It was very simple and got a lot of compliments!

Picture from the party of finished costume:

What were you this year? What is your favorite Halloween tradition? Be sure to take my poll to the right -->

Talk to you later (Trick-or-Treaters are at my door :-)

Welcome!
I have wanted to start a blog for some time now and, thanks to some friends, I just got up the nerve to make the move.

Why start a blog, you ask? Well, for one, I really wanted a creative outlet. Secondly (and more importantly) I am always running into ideas, questions, stories, etc. that I want to share or have questions about. So, I thought about how I could do this and I got the idea to create a blog.

The fact that I am interested in many different things made a topic for a blog difficult. So, My goal for this blog is to create a space for anything and everything unique, fabulous, obnoxious, or classy. Basically, if it strikes my fancy (or my disgust) it will end up here. I would invite all readers to follow and discuss… after all this is not just for me.

I truly hope to learn from writing this blog, and from listening to readers. If I post a topic, please let me know what you think.

While I encourage all participation, I do ask that everyone do so in a respectful way. As one of my professors once said: Just as a candle has a flame, we too each have a flame. And I believe that in order to communicate effectively we must express ourselves and protect our flame without blowing out the flame of others. If we can do this effectively, we will build a stronger light.

If you have any topics you would like me to cover, please feel free to email me at mybrightidea.blog@gmail.com

Enjoy!
